		<description>I don&#039;t think Ms. Semenya has a male chromosome as stated above.  It took months for many doctors to make a decision as to what sex she is.  A simple karyotype would have shown if she had the Y/male chromosome.  I&#039;m guessing that Semenya has two X chromosomes, but that one of them has the sex determining region of a Y chromosome.  According to a article I found, on rare occasions during synapsis of meiosis in the formation of a sperm cell, that sections of the Y and X sex chromosome do cross-over.  Usually the sex chromosomes synapsis during meiosis I, but crossing-over doesn’t occur.  If crossing over did occur and the sex determining region of the Y chromosome was transferred to the X chromosome, then the this region would cause and individual to develop as a male, but have two X chromosome.  My guess is something like this happened because male chromosomes are easy to identify and it doesn’t take many doctors many months to determine if one is present.</description>
