Back in May we featured an article about the (then) new search engine, Wolfram|Alpha. Just a reminder: Wolfram|Alpha lets you enter questions and get answers, as opposed to other search engines such as Google or Bing, that don’t treat what you ask them as specific questions.
We just got an Email from the team at Wolfram|Alpha, saying that “since our launch we’ve integrated many suggestions and fixes to make Wolfram|Alpha stronger”. This is indeed true, as has been published in the last months.
To show off Wolfram’s capabilities when it comes to your health, the team explain in detail on their blog how to use their search engine to get info about medical tests your doctor requested, compute your risk for heart disease and more. For example:
Using the built-in heart disease risk calculator in Wolfram|Alpha, you can get more insight into your risk of coronary heart disease and the potential that you will have a heart-attack within the next 10 years… …To complete the assessment, enter your age, gender, diabetic status, and smoking status along with results from common cholesterol (LDL and HDL count) and blood pressure tests (systolic and diabolic blood pressure). The results indicate the likelihood that you will develop heart disease in the next 10 years, the impact your cholesterol and blood pressure levels have on this risk, and a chart showing your cumulative risk as your age increases.
Have you ever used Wolfram|Alfa to help you with health related questions? If so, and if you see any improvements, let us know in the comments
