Hi Slavi,

You should read the article. No one claims you should avoid the sun altogether. It's indeed important for us, for various biological functions. However, exposing yourself to the sun unprotected (unclothed, not wearing a sunscreen) during certain times of the day has been proven to promote skin cancer.
The answer above was meant to explain that protective measures aren't important only on summer time but also at other times of the year.

Are you OK?! Sun is the normal natural source of light and heat, and any one being needs it! Stop frighten the people! The UV light is harmful for the skin, but our organism have ability to fight with it up to some limits. UV sun light is dangerous, especially for white people, when they are exposed on sun over some hours of day, and also in certain conditions

@Summer,

If all of these are true, it sounds like the chances are low. BUT, in medicine there's a phrase, translated here roughly from French: "In medicine, like in love, there's never 'always' and never 'never'". Meaning that there's always an exception to the rule. My best advice is to visit a dermatologist at least once to make sure that you're indeed out of risk.

What about a birthmark? Like what if one is born with a mole that is larger than 6 milimeters and is oval shaped but edges are not like the one in the photo, no family history of melanoma, not white, no sun exposure and if any then tans easily, and never any new moles

Scott,

You're right. What I meant was what should be in a normal mole. I corrected it to give a better understanding. Thanks!
